Djokovic fined $8,000 for smashing a racket

Serbian tennis star Novak Djokovic, ranked second in the world, was fined $8,000 for smashing a racket on a pole during the Wimbledon final last Sunday.

The All England Club announced the imposition of a fine on Djokovic, who is 36 years old, due to “misuse of the racket” during the final match in which Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz won and was crowned champion.

There was widespread anger at Djokovic after he failed to break Alcaraz's serve and dropped serve during the deciding fifth set of the match played on Center Court at Wimbledon.

Referee Fergus Murphy warned Djokovic for violating the rules, after warning him earlier during the match for violating the timing rules.

The match ended with Alcaraz, the 20-year-old and world number one, winning 1/6, 7/6 (8/6), 6/1, 3/6, 6/4 after a contest that lasted for four hours and 42 minutes.

With this victory, Alcaraz deprived Serbian star Djokovic of achieving his 24th title in the four major “Grand Slam” tournaments, and this became Alcaraz’s eighth championship at Wimbledon.
